Dehumidifier For Bathroom

A key area in a house for mould to grow is the bathroom as this is often the dampest and most humid place in the house. After a hot shower or bath you will notice condensation on the mirrors and walls and over time you may even see paint peeling away from its base.

The bathroom also adds a dilemma in that you should not use electrical equipment in very wet areas. If you want a dehumidifier in your bathroom you should use a moisture absorber which does not use electricity. However, I can almost guarantee that a moisture absorber will not be up to the job.

Humidity levels in bathrooms can reach up to 100% therefore you need a powerful unit to extract the humidity quickly in order to avoid moisture damage and mould growth. The only dehumidifier able for this task is a full size dehumidifier.

The way to solve our dilemma is to place the dehumidifier at the door of the bathroom so that it can still absorb moisture from the bathroom but operates out of harms way. Ensure the dehumidifier is not plugged into a socket in the bathroom and that the air inflow is facing the bathroom.

Compressor or Desiccant Dehumidifier?

The question now is to choose a compressor or desiccant dehumidifier in your bathroom.

You can answer this by gauging in which environment you shower. Do you have the radiators on or off when showering? Is there a small wall heater hanging on your bathroom wall?

What you want to answer is how hot is temperature in the bathroom when you shower?

If the bathroom temperature is over 20C then you should consider a compressor dehumidifier. If the temperature is less than 20C then you should use a desiccant dehumidifier.

Compressor Dehumidifier

If you are looking for a compressor dehumidifier just for the bathroom then I would recommend the De’Longhi DEM10 Compact Dehumidifier as it’s a very popular budget type dehumidifier.

Remember to place the DEM10 in the bathroom doorway and not directly into the bathroom.

Desiccant Dehumidifier

A very popular desiccant model and one that is very able to the task of extracting moisture from a bathroom is the EcoAir Eco DD122 Desiccant Dehumidifier.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are more efficient than compressor units at a temperature of 20C or less. Due to lack of compressor parts desiccant dehumidifiers are also quieter and lighter than compressor models. Desiccant units are also environmentally friendly.
