EcoAir DC12 or EcoAir DD122FW Dehumidifier?

ecoair dc12 vs ecoair dd122fw dehumidifier

The Very Popular EcoAir DD122FW Desiccant Dehumidifier

I’ve had a query asking me whether the person should buy the EcoAir DC12 or the EcoAir DD122FW dehumidifier. The truth is, and regular readers of this blog know that, I love the EcoAir Range of Dehumidifiers.

The largest difference between the EcoAir DC12 and the EcoAir DD122FW is that the DC12 is a compressor type dehumidifier whilst the DD122FW is a desiccant dehumidifier. The differences between the two types of dehumidifier is large and it is for this reason that the extraction rate for the DC12, at 12 litres, is larger than that of the DD122FW, at 7 litres.

For ease of comparison I have compiled the most important information into a neat table (note that the EcoAir DD122FW price of £129 is currently discounted from £149):

There are several differences between the two models which are easily gleaned from the table above.

The water tank for the DC12 is a massive 3.5 litres, as opposed to 2 litres for the DD122FW, which is very large for a domestic dehumidifier. Also being a compressor dehumidifier the DC12 is a little louder than the DD122FW. However a volume of just 41dB is on the low side for a compressor type dehumidifier.

The DD122FW features little extras such as an anti-drip mechanism which stops water from dripping down if you remove the water tank for emptying. There’s also an anti-tilt feature which is handy if you have children in the house.

Another important difference is the weight of each dehumidifier. The DC12 is almost twice as heavy as the DD122FW which is why the DC12 features castor wheels and the DD122FW does not.

Two features which are included with the DC12 are a timer function, with 2 hour and 4 hour options, and auto defrost. The auto defrost setting allows the compressor to turn off when the water on the coils inside the dehumidifier gets too cold. The fan will remain running in order to help heat up the water as fast as possible so that the dehumidifier can continue to work.

Both dehumidifiers come with a 2 year warranty.

Which Dehumidifier Should You Choose?

Both dehumidifiers are very good quality appliances however taking into account the above information I would have to recommend the EcoAir Eco DD122FW as I strongly believe that desiccant dehumidifiers are much better suited to UK temperatures than compressor dehumidifiers.

Some reasons for my believe are that desiccant dehumidifiers are cheaper to run at lower temperatures than compressor models, they can also run at lower temperatures. The extraction rate of desiccant dehumidifiers is constant and not lumpy like that of compressor dehumidifiers which are more affected by the temperature.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are often lighter and quieter and they don’t contain refrigerants making them environmentally friendly.

Therefore I would recommend the EcoAir Eco DD122FW over the EcoAir DC12 for domestic use in the UK.
