Meaco DD8L Dehumidifier Control Panel

As I have often stated my favourite dehumidifier for domestic application is the Meaco DD8L Desiccant Dehumidifier

This model dehumidifier is selling well on Amazon and is receiving rave reviews from verified customers. I personally own a Meaco DD8L and am very happy with it.

This post covers the excellent control panel that is a feature of the superb Meaco DD8L Desiccant Dehumidifier.

The Meaco DD8L Dehumidifier Control Panel

First of all the control panel is a soft touch control panel which makes it very easy to see and adjust the settings. It also looks very good.

The control panel is situated above the grille out of which the expelled warm air flows. The air expelled is typically 10C-12C warmer than the air taken in however the expelled warm air does not hinder operation of the control panel in any way.

As you can see on the photo above the ‘on’/’off’ button is located to the left of the control panel. The light next to the small red fault symbol underneath the ‘on’/’off’ button lights up when there is a fault with the Meaco DD8L . Typically the most common fault would be the blocking of the air inlet filter. To remedy this simply clean the filter, check that the Meaco is not next  to a heat source, and restart the dehumidifier after ten minutes.

The light on the left of the water tank symbol, underneath the fault symbol, lights up when the water tank is full. All dehumidifiers automatically cease operation when the water tank is full to avoid spillage and accidents. It is worth noting that the Meaco DD8L also comes with a continuous drainage option for those that don’t , or can’t, drain the water tank manually.

The large button next to the ‘on’/’off’ button is the fan speed adjustment button. There are three fan speeds low, medium and high. On the ‘high’ setting the dehumidifier shifts into a ‘Continuous’ running mode. Obviously water extraction will be at its highest level and running costs will increase.

The large humidity level button is situated on the right of the fan speed adjustment button. Below this there are four settings.

The ‘three water droplet setting’ is the maximum setting and brings the relative humidity (RH) down to 40% before the Meaco DD8L goes into sleep mode (it then wakes up every 30 minutes to check the relative humidity percentage). This setting is recommended to avoid condensation occuring on single glazed windows or when the outside temperature falls below 5C.

The ‘Thumbs Up’ setting brings the RH down to 50% and this is the recommended setting for most households. It is the setting in which I run my Meaco the majority of the time.

The ‘single water drop’ setting brings the RH down to 60% which helps stop mould growing in the vicinity of the dehumidifier.

The ‘shirt’ setting is ideal for drying clothes indoors. In this setting the dehumidifier will run on ‘Continuous’ mode and bring the RH down to just 35%. For best performance when drying clothes  indoors you should place the dehumidifier and washing into the smallest room in the house and close all windows and doors to the room.

Note that no washing should be placed on top of the dehumidifier nor should any water drip onto the dehumidifier.

The next main button, situated second from the right, is the timer button. Simply select a 1,2,4 or 8 hour running time and the machine will stop operating after the set time. This setting is useful when leaving the house or when drying clothes indoors.

The last main button is the ioniser button. The Meaco DD8L  has a build in ioniser which is a great feature for those suffering from allergies. Basically the ioniser releases negative ions which attach themselves to positive ions, such as dirt. The enlarged ions then become too heavy to be airborne so they either get sucked into the filter or fall onto the ground ready to be hoovered up. The result is a much cleaner air. Personally I have the ioniser turned on at all times apart from when drying clothes indoors.

After reading the above you should be able to picture the control panel in your mind and adjust the settings accordingly.  If you can’t then simply watch this short video which explains the above.
